7 Closet Space-Savers

7 Closet Space-Savers

Whether you are cramped for space or simply want to use your beautiful walk-in closet more efficiently, we at Closets by Design have some great ideas for maximizing every square inch. Take a look at the ideas below to see which solutions might work best for you, and get in touch with us if you need help incorporating some of these space-savers into your closet.

Double-Decker Closet Rods

Doubling the space in your closet is surprisingly simple. While the traditional closet only has a single rod for clothing, you can double your space by adding a second. Longer items such as dresses will need all that vertical space, but shorter items such as blouses, dress shirts and slacks can fit easily into half that area.

Add Shelves and Drawers

Another easy space-saver is to use shelves and drawers to take advantage of the horizontal space in your closet. Those of you with walk-in closets or deeper reach-in closets will find this space-saver particularly useful.

Inside the Door Shelves

If you have a hinged door leading into your closet, why not add a shelf-rack to the back? You can easily store everything from shoes, to art supplies, to cleaning sprays — all conveniently out of the way.

Store Linens in Pillow Cases

Linens are messy and usually take up way too much space. Organize your linen closet by keeping all of the linens from a set inside the pillowcase. Then, stack these pillowcases in neat, organized piles. Now all that visual clutter is gone, and you can easily grab a whole set of bed linens when your in-laws drop by for a surprise visit.

Hanging Shoe Organizers

Hanging shoe organizers can be used for so much more than shoes! For example, add baskets for a cute way to store undergarments and socks (because those never look organized, no matter how carefully you fold them). They also provide easy-access cubbies for hats, scarves or other accessories. The possibilities are endless!

Hanging Racks

Ties, belts and scarves are always getting in the way, especially if you are short on space. Attaching a hanging rack to the wall allows you to keep all of those items organized, without sacrificing your much-needed closet rod space. Closets By Design even has racks customized especially for belts, ties and pants.

Outside the Closet

If you find your closet stuffed with seasonal clothing, we’ve got a solution for that, too! Fill up vintage chests and suitcases with all of those holiday sweaters you love but can never wear in July. Then place them around your home for a decorative (and incredibly functional!) touch. Chests make for great end or coffee tables and give your home that coveted old-world style.

If you still find yourself in need of more space, we can help with that, too. We have a wide range of closet upgrades available for both reach-in and walk-in closets. If you think you might need an upgrade, give us a call and we can discuss creating the dream closet you’ve always wanted.
